Make Use of Your Entrepreneurial Skills, Gov Obaseki Tells Corp Members

OKADA – Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has urged the 1,250 “Batch B Stream II” corpers deployed to the state for their mandatory one year service to their father land to display their entrepreneurial skills in their areas of primary assignment.
Addressing the Youth Corpers who were winding up on a three week orientation course at the NYSC temporary Orientation Camp, Okada, on behalf of the Governor, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu told them to key into the Edo Job website to keep abreast with more entrepreneurial skills that can be of benefit to them individually .
He said, “I wish to commend the NYSC management for introducing and making the skills acquisition programme compulsory for corps members during the service year.
“This has gone a long way to align with the Federal Government’s policy of equipping young graduates with necessary skills to boost self reliance and enhance entrepreneurship which serves as the desired catalyst for our industrial development.”
Reminding them that the scheme was designed to serve as a medium for national unity and integration as well as provide professional manpower to ensure even development, Obaseki encouraged the Corpers to make sacrifices for the development of the state which was inline with the demands of the National Service scheme.
He informed them of their roles and responsibilities in the task of nation building which has launched them into mainstream socio-economic development, a complementary role in nation building which is crucial at this point in time when the nation is faced with both political and economic challenges.
He advised them to make positive impact on their host communities, especially now when the nation and Edo State in particular is undergoing various reforms and developmental challenges.
He nonetheless sued for their noninvolvement in vices, avoid unnecessary travelling but interact freely with their host communities to understand their culture and traditions, adding that Edo people are friendly and accommodating.

In line with the scheme, he pleaded with employers of labour to address the welfare needs of Corp members with the provision of accommodation, settlement of medical bills, transportation and other welfare needs, especially their security concerns.
On his part, Commissioner for Youths Development, Hon. Damian Lawani maintained that as future leaders, these youths should deploye the knowledge gained from school and orientation camp to impact on society.
Affter orientation, orpers are usualy posted out to areas of critical need for the enhancement of rural health care delivery, education, rural infrastructure and agricultural development.
