Tragedy: Many Feared Dead, Several Injured, 54 Vehicles Burnt As Tanker With Pms Explode In Lagos.

LAGOS – Many were burnt to death, some badly injured and several vehicles burnt as fuel tanker explodes in Lagos.
It was reliably gathered that a fuel tanker has exploded on Otedola Bridge outward the Berger area of Lagos on Thursday evening.
Nine bodies have so far been recovered from the scene of the tanker fire, several people sustained injuries, while many vehicles, especially commercial and private travelling out of Lagos and those returning home from work were burnt to ashes.
The spokesman for the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, said in a statement sent to our correspondent read, “A crash involving a fallen loaded tanker crash has occurred around Otedola bridge on the outward Lagos section of the expressway.
“Many people were feared dead, several injured and many vehicles caught fire in the process”, the statement read.
The Lagos State emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) official also confirmed to our correspondent that unaccounted number of people were dead and several others injured in the calamity.
“54 vehicles and one tricycle were also said to have been burnt in the incident”, the LASEMA official added.
The tanker, loaded with PMS, was reportedly had a break failure and the driver rapped it into other vehicles held in traffic, which resulted into high flame.

Obaseki Condemns Plateau Killings, Commiserates With Victims

BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has condemned killings in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas in Plateau State and commiserated with victims of attacks, urging for urgent action to end the spate of killings in different parts of the country.
In a statement, the governor, who said that it was regrettable that such wanton attack could be meted on fellow countrymen, stressed the imperative for peaceful coexistence and tolerance in curbing conflict among different groups.
The governor commiserated with the families of the deceased, noting, “It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the death of about 86 persons in a conflict that erupted in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas of Plateau State.
I reiterate without equivocation that these deaths are not only needless, they must be put to a stop and those behind them should be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
He said the government and people of Edo State join in mourning the loss of lives on the Plateau, assuring that they are not alone in their moment of grief.
“The recent killings would weigh on the conscience of any Nigerian, who values human life and stands for peace and progress of our country. I stand with the people of the affected families and local government areas in this sad moment of our history as a people,” he stressed.
Calling for urgent action to stem the spate of violence, he said, “The killings, once again, put a question on the internal security architecture of the country. Urgent steps must be taken to protect Nigerians, which is one of the primary duties of government. It is not out of place to, at this juncture, call for a review of the security architecture to respond to the peculiar needs of the Nigerian people.”

Police Seek Information On Suspects Who Allegedly Killed Monarch In Enugu

ENUGU – The Police Command in Enugu State on Thursday appealed for the public’s help for information that would lead to the arrest of a suspect, one Chijioke Okenwa and his cohorts alleged to be involved in the murder of a monarch.
NAN reports that police said Igwe Steven Nwatu, the traditional ruler of Ogbozinne autonomous community, Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Eunu State, was murdered on Monday.
The command’s Spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said that a warrant of arrest had been issued against Okenwa and his cohorts.
According to him, Okenwa (48) with an average height, dark in complexion, hails from Ogboezinne Autonomous community of Akpugo.
“The command is advising members of the public with useful information about how the suspect can be traced, to report to any nearby police station or contact the command’s telephone numbers of 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671201 and 08098880172.
“They can also reach the command through it twitter page of @POLICENGEnugu or Facebook address of Nigereiapoliceforceenugustatecommand,’’ he said.
He said Okenwa’s shop address was situated at the DD unit of the Alaba International Market, Ojo in Lagos State.
Amaraizu said that besides those being sought, the command had nabbed some other suspects who were helping the police operatives in their investigations.
NAN reports that that some of the subjects on Monday allegedly killed the traditional ruler over protracted town union leadership.
The leadership tussle was said to have lasted for more than 10 years.
Over 200 houses were allegedly razed by a group in the community loyal to the monarch.
